Dr. Downs is the Director of General and Community Pediatrics and the Children’s Health Services Research section at Indiana University School of Medicine. He also directs the Regenstrief Institute Biomedical Informatics Research Training Program.
Dr. Downs received his MD and master’s in Medical Informatics from Stanford University. He completed his residency in Pediatrics and a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars fellowship in Health Services Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he served on the faculties of Pediatrics, Biomedical Engineering and Public Health.
He chairs the AAP’s Partnership for Policy Implementation, co-chairs the steering committee of the AAP Child Health Informatics Center, and co-chaired the newborn screening subcommittee for the American Health Informatics Community. His research interests include computer-based decision support systems for primary care, expected utility theory, decision analysis and cost-effectiveness analysis.
