Dr. Anand is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and is the faculty advisor to the Child Health Informatics Research and Development Lab (CHIRDL) in the Children’s Health Services Research (CHSR) program at IU School of Medicine. She is also a Regenstrief Institute Affiliated Scientist.

CHIRDL develops health information technology focused interventions for CHSR and the Indiana Center of Excellence in Public Health Informatics (ICEPHI) projects – with focus on children (ICECHIP) for sending Newborn Screening alerts to the physicians at point of care and linking with immunization registries.

Dr. Anand in collaboration with other CHSR faculty and Regenstrief Institute Research Scientists developed the Child Health Improvement through Computer Automation: The CHICA System. CHICA combines patient-relevant pediatric guidelines with information learned from the patient’s family to deliver highly targeted and customized reminders to the clinicians at point of care. More recently, Dr. Anand developed the system architecture for the next generation of CHICA and other similar real time decision support and alerting systems utilizing the open source Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system—OpenMRS, a community developed and supported EMR framework that started at the Regenstrief Institute. Dr. Anand is currently also researching probabilistic approaches for secondary and meaningful use of EMR data for use in clinical decision support systems.

Dr. Anand received BE in Electrical Engineering from National Institute of Technology (MN-NIT), India, MS in Computer Science from University of New Haven, CT and a PhD in Informatics from Indiana University, IN.
