Recovery of Space Costs

Regenstrief Institute assesses a space charge to all externally funded research projects.   The cost of conducting research in Regenstrief Institute space at the Health Information and Translational Sciences (HITS) building is $30.16 per square foot.

Space cost is comprised of two components:

  • $26 per square foot is rent paid to Indiana University per signed lease agreement
  • $4.16 per square foot is a portion of the non recoverable capitalized cost of providing furniture and fixtures provided by Regenstrief Institute.

The calculation for determining the amount of space cost charged to a project is based on the following formula:

100 sq ft per FTE x $30.16 x personnel % of effort on research project
