Calita, a long-time member of the Regenstrief DEI Council, deserves to be honored as DEI champion because:
1. Calita has the most to lose of any of us by championing a cause. An administrative coordinator who fights for DEI is heroically brave.
2. Calita ventures outside of her comfort zone. Calita is a timid public speaker, a harmony seeker, and respectful team player. She does not love to speak in front of crowds, shake up the status quo, or disagree with powerful individuals (deans, directors, professors)–BUT SHE DOES IT FOR DEI, which is not a “comfortable” area to be in.
3. Calita has earned respect from investigators, staff, and leaders throughout Regenstrief Institute. She uses her social capital to enact good and inspire others in DEI initiatives.
4. Calita is hard working and generous with her time. She puts in the hours and sweat equity to make DEI leadership more than a line on her resume. She shows up and shows out.
5. Calita is a high-character human being who is an inspiration and role model to others, me among them.
