The statistics are heartbreaking.
The United States ranks 29th among wealthy nations in infant mortality, and Indiana is 39th in the U.S. with a rate of almost 8 deaths per 1,000 live births.
WeCare Indiana is committed to reversing this trend. In partnership with the Indiana University (IU) Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health, IU Simon Cancer Center, IU Clinical Translational Science Institute, IU Health, and state and local organizations, the WeCare initiative is developing community-based solutions.
Our team has designed locally-customized SMS messaging for enrollees about healthy living, pregnancy, and infant care. WeCare provides information on resources such as breastfeeding support, free or low-cost childbirth and parenting classes, and affordable baby supplies. We serve our communities by providing health coaching to expectant mothers and fathers and ensuring access to healthy food for participants who are food insecure.
Our goal is to develop a model that can be used to address these health challenges statewide. Together, we can help build healthier communities and reduce infant mortality in Indiana. We can, because WeCare.
Become a partner in our effort.
All donations to the Regenstrief WeCare Supplies Fund will replenish critically needed baby supplies for the most at-risk individuals our community health coaches have personally screened. One of our most urgent needs is a stable supply of portable cribs to support safe sleep for infants.
