William Barnett is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Indiana University Precision Health Initiative, led by the Indiana University School of Medicine, with Regenstrief Institute as its principal informatics partner. In his current role, his mission is to lead the conceptualization, design, development, and implementation of informatics infrastructures for precision health at Indiana University. He is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at the IU School of Medicine, and in the Regenstrief Institute Center for Biomedical Informatics.
Over the last decade he has led applied informatics efforts in genomics analysis, high performance computing, research collaboration and data management, and multi-site trials support. At Indiana University he established many of the core informatics services for the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, established the National Center for Genome Analysis Support (NCGAS), and is currently institutional principal investigator site lead for the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Clinical Data Research Network, the CTSA Accrual to Clinical Trials (ACT) Network, and directs the Informatics Core for the Collaborative Initiative for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (CIFASD).
