Regenstrief CEO among national honorees for ground-breaking achievements in transplantation

SAN FRANCISCO – Regenstrief Institute President and Chief Executive Officer Rachel Patzer, PhD, MPH, is among a select group of award recipients at the annual American Transplant Congress (ATC 2025) on Monday, August 5, in San Francisco.

Awards are presented each year at the ATC on behalf of the American Society of Transplantation (AST), American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and American Journal of Transplantation (AJT).

Dr. Patzer, along with other distinguished leaders, were announced as honorees for their achievements and contributions in their field. She has been recognized by the AST with the Clinical Science Established Investigator Award. ATC 2025 recognized transplantation experts, students and scholars for their impact as well as their influential and promising research to continue advancing innovation in transplantation.

Dr. Patzer is a prominent epidemiologist and health services researcher with a strong focus on healthcare access, quality and outcomes. She has been instrumental in transforming transplantation practices and advocating for a population health approach to inform quality measures, policies and interventions. In addition to being the president and CEO at Regenstrief, she is a research scientist in the Regenstrief Center for Health Services Research, holds a tenured professorship at the Indiana University School of Medicine, is the Leonard Betley Professor of Surgery and is an adjunct professor at the IU Indianapolis Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health.

Her research includes developing a novel surveillance data registry for kidney disease and leading studies to improve access to kidney transplantation. Dr. Patzer is also a member of the American Society of Nephrology Policy and Advocacy Committee and has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and reports.
