The HEALeR Consortium will host its second biennial Symposium on November 6, 2025, at the NCAA Conference Center, 700 W. Washington St., Indianapolis. This year’s theme, “Evidence in Action: Advancing Ethical Implementation Science in Learning Health Systems,” will bring together national leaders, researchers, faculty and health professionals to explore the ethical and operational challenges of using evidence to inform care.
The symposium is guided by an accomplished scientific advisory committee, which includes several Regenstrief Institute experts:
- David A. Haggstrom, M.D., MAS – director, Center for Health Services Research at Regenstrief.
- Sarah E. Wiehe, M.D., MPH – co-director, Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute and a Regenstrief research scientist.
- Brownsyne Tucker Edmonds, M.D., MPH, M.S. – vice president and chief health impact officer, IU Health, and a Regenstrief research scientist.
- Erika R. Cheng, PhD, MPA – executive director of HEALeR and Regenstrief affiliate scientist.
- Peter Embí, M.D., M.S. – professor of biomedical informatics at Vanderbilt University, former Regenstrief president and chief executive officer and a Regenstrief affiliate scientist.
The one-day symposium will also feature keynote presentations from two internationally recognized experts:
- Ruth R. Faden, PhD, MPH – founder of the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics and Philip Franklin Wagley Professor of Biomedical Ethics.
- Lisa A. Cooper, MD, MPH, MACP – Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at Johns Hopkins University, MacArthur Fellow and member of President Biden’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
Agenda highlights include:
- Exploring the evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure in building responsive, ethical learning health systems (LHSs).
- Applying core ethical principles of implementation science to real-world healthcare delivery challenges.
- Engaging with national and local leaders across LHS, ethics and implementation science.
- Examining how ethics influence efforts to address today’s most urgent health issues.
The event will conclude with a networking reception hosted by Regenstrief Institute from 5:15–7:00 p.m. in the Christine Grant Ballroom. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with colleagues and continue the day’s discussions over light refreshments.
Registration is free. All attendees are required to sign up. Complimentary breakfast, lunch and reception are included for all registered participants.
The Health Excellence Achieved through Learning Health Systems Research (HEALeR) Consortium strengthens systems of care through research that improves health outcomes, expands access and supports evidence-based models of care. HEALeR works in close collaboration with Indiana University School of Medicine, IU Health, Regenstrief Institute and community partners to ensure learning health systems are responsive and sustainable.
