Principal Investigator
Dr. Alison DeDent is a pulmonary and critical care physician with expertise in rare conditions known as interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), many of which are chronic, diagnosed late and affect older adults. Her research is focused on identifying, understanding, and addressing the challenges that ILD patients with fractured access to care face, especially those living in rural areas or who receive care in safety-net hospitals. To achieve these aims, she uses geospatial analysis, technology and implementation science, with the goal of developing innovative solutions that increase access to early guideline-concordant care and improve outcomes for patients with ILD and other chronic lung diseases.
Dr. DeDent received her medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and her internal medicine training from the University of Colorado. She completed her fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care and a master’s degree in clinical research at the University of California, San Francisco. Her scholarly work has been supported by the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, the American Thoracic Society, the Nina Ireland Program for Lung Health and an NIH institutional T32 award.
