Regenstrief Institute researcher departs after more than two decades of service 

Michael Weiner, MD, MPH

After more than two decades of impactful work in Indiana, Michael Weiner, M.D., MPH, is departing Regenstrief Institute, Indiana University School of Medicine and the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center in Indianapolis to continue his contributions in health services research.  

Dr. Weiner has been a key figure in advancing healthcare delivery and outcomes research through his longtime roles as a director, research scientist, professor and clinician. He served as director of the VA Health Systems Research (HSR) Center for Health Information and Communication (CHIC), a role he held for more than a decade. He served as director of the Regenstrief Center for Health Services Research from 2010 to 2019 and helped build CHIC into a nationally recognized VA research center. 

Since joining the IU School of Medicine and Regenstrief in 1999, Dr. Weiner has made significant contributions to data-driven research and clinical innovation.  

While he is stepping down from his Indiana-based roles, Dr. Weiner will continue to focus on improving health systems and patient care as he begins his next chapter at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System

Tierney Center for Health Services Research at Regenstrief Institute, Michael Weiner, M.D., MPH, is a research scientist at the VA Health Service Research and Development Center for Health Information and Communication, Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, and a professor of medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine.
