Open Health Methodologies

Welcome to the homepage for the Eleventh Biennial Regenstrief Conference.  The theme for this year's conference is Open Health Methodologies.  The conference will be held at the historic French Lick Resort and Casino (http://www.frenchlick.com) from September 23, 2009 to September 25, 2009.

Conference Objectives:

After the conference, attendees should be able to:

  1. Explain the role of open methodologies in academic research and development, particularly as they apply to the health care setting.
  2. Use lessons from recent experiences with open-methodology strategies from the WHO and our implementation of an electronic health record in third world countries to implement open-methodology processes in your own work.
  3. Develop collaborative long term relationships with other attendees and visionaries pioneering this process.  The invitees will represent many major domains of open-development innovation, including the open-source movement, natural user-interfaces, open-research methodologies and open-publication and dissemination.
  4. Discuss how these methodologies may evolve in the future.  As these ideas take hold, how will our world change? What challenges will we face? What new opportunities will open up? These are the questions we will tackle to explore the evolution of open-methodologies in the future.

Conference Description:

The format of this conference is an unconference.  An unconference is a conference that is participant driven and centered around a theme or purpose.  We anticipate an internationally recognized group of conference participants which represent leading thinking in the areas of health and opensource.

Some participants include:

1. Clay Shirky, well known internationally for his writing and thought leadership on issues of opensource.

2. Roni Zeiger, MD, the project lead for Google Health which is revolutionizing personal health record systems.

Attendance to this conference is by invitation only and the meeting size is limited.  There is no registration fee and all attendees will receive lodging, meals, and bus service from the airport to the meeting site.  Your only expense will be transportation from your home to the airport or to French Lick if you prefer to drive.

The setting for the conference is the picturesque resort town of French Lick located in beautiful Southern Indiana.  We hope that you will also find some time during this meeting for relaxation at this historic resort.

The Regenstrief Conferences were established in 1985 to foster information exchange and intellectual discourse regarding a specific health research issue and its policy implications.  The agenda is structured to facilitate informal collegial interaction in a relaxed atmosphere.  All attendees have ample opportunity to engage the speakers and others in discussion during the sessions.  The proceedings of the last four conferences have been published in a mainstream medical journal.

If you have received an invitation and would like to attend, please register @ http://www.regenstrief.org/conferences/2009/2009-conference-registration   Please register by August 17, 2009.
