Dr. Haggstrom is a cancer health services researcher broadly interested in the measurement and improvement of the quality of health care delivery across the cancer continuum. In addition to implementation science, Dr. Haggstrom has a special interest in medical informatics, including personal health records and health information exchange.
Dr. Haggstrom has assessed the quality of cancer treatment and surveillance using large datasets, including VA cancer registry and SEER-Medicare data. With support from the VA and Livestrong Foundation, Dr. Haggstrom has studied the influence of patient, provider, and organizational factors upon the quality of survivorship care among colorectal cancer survivors. He has also developed a personal health record to meet the patient-centered needs of cancer survivors, and performed qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the tool.
Currently, Dr. Haggstrom is conducting an evaluation of health information exchange between the VA and IHIE in order to better understand the impact upon underuse, costs, and overuse.
