On-site attendance encouraged for most valuable experience

LOINC® from Regenstrief Institute, a global healthcare terminology standard, is returning to in-person learning at its semi-annual conference October 24-27, 2022, in Annecy, France.

Registration for the conference gains access to presentations. Content will include:

  • a framework for newer users and to bolster knowledge for advanced users;
  • sessions led by LOINC community members who are applying and administering LOINC codes in the field;
  • committee meetings to discuss healthcare trends and the impact on LOINC and other data standards; and
  • access to conference resources after the event.

To view the preliminary schedule, register for the conference and access a sampling of past workshops and presentations from LOINC’s most recent, online-only conference in March 2021, visit the LOINC conference website.

“We are very excited to announce the return of our in-person conference,” said Marjorie Rallins, DPM, M.S., executive director of LOINC and Health Data Standards from Regenstrief. “The event will be held at Les Pensières Center for Global Health in Annecy, France. We encourage anyone who can to attend in person to reap the greatest benefit that comes with live collaboration, conversation and interaction. However, we will be offering a virtual option. While we are committed to hosting this as a face-to-face event, we will continue to monitor the global health situation and make any adjustments necessary to ensure the health and safety of our LOINC team and community.”

LOINC conference attendees are engaged learners from around the globe and will represent a variety of industries such as software, device manufacturers, healthcare providers, laboratories, government agencies, and research and educational institutions. As with prior conferences, attendees can expect opportunities for hands-on learning, expert discussions and engaging presentations from a wide range of authorities and specialists in health data and informatics.

LOINC, which stands for Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes, is a standard for identifying health measurements, observations, and documents. Created and maintained at Regenstrief Institute, LOINC enables the identification, exchange and collection of data across health systems and is used around the world. The current COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted and further emphasizes the value of this standard and its impact on data interoperability.

About LOINC® from Regenstrief
LOINC® was created in 1994 at Regenstrief Institute to facilitate interoperability in healthcare. There was a growing trend to send clinical data electronically between healthcare entities, a practice that has now become ubiquitous. Today, it contains more than 100,000 terms for everything from a serum alpha 1 antitrypsin level to a zygomatic arch x-ray report. For each concept, LOINC contains many other rich details, such as synonyms, units of measure, and carefully crafted descriptions.
