Regenstrief research scientists appointed associate directors of IUCAR

Regenstrief Institute research scientists Malaz Boustani, M.D., MPH, and Sikandar Khan, D.O., M.S., have been appointed as associate directors of the Indiana University Center for Aging Research (IUCAR) at Regenstrief.

Drs. Boustani and Khan have long served Indiana University and Regenstrief and bring deep institutional knowledge and proven leadership that will advance IUCAR’s mission to improve the health and quality of life of older adults.

A geriatrician, neuroscientist and professor of medicine at the IU School of Medicine, Dr. Boustani focuses on developing, evaluating and disseminating healthcare innovations to enhance brain health and aging care. He is the founding director and chief innovation and implementation officer of the Sandra Eskenazi Center for Brain Care Innovation and serves as director of senior care innovation at Eskenazi Health.

Dr. Khan is focused on improving outcomes for critically ill older adults. His research examines how acute respiratory failure and delirium in the ICU influence long-term cognitive and physical function. He is an assistant professor of medicine at the IU School of Medicine and director of the IU Health Intensive Care Unit Survivor Center.

The appointments of Drs. Boustani and Khan underscore IUCAR’s commitment to scientific excellence and innovation in aging research. Their leadership will help strengthen collaborations across Regenstrief Institute, Indiana University and health system partners to improve care delivery for older adults in Indiana and beyond.

Malaz Boustani, M.D., MPH
In addition to his role as a research scientist with the Indiana University Center for Aging Research at Regenstrief Institute, Malaz Boustani, M.D., MPH, is the founding director of the Center for Health Innovation and Implementation Science. He is a professor and the Richard M. Fairbanks Chair of Aging Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Boustani is also director of care innovation at Eskenazi Health.

Sikandar Khan, D.O., M.S.
In addition to his role as a research scientist and co-program director of the COVID-19 recovery program for older adults with the Indiana University Center for Aging Research at Regenstrief Institute, Dr. Khan is an assistant professor of medicine and director of the Indiana University Health Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Survivor Center.
