Regenstrief researcher named Fellow in American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

Dr. Tom Imperiale in American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

Regenstrief research scientist Thomas F. Imperiale, M.D., has been awarded the honorable distinction of Fellow in the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. The distinction recognizes his significant contributions to the field of endoscopy as well as his dedication to patient care, research, teaching and service.

Dr. Imperiale is an internationally respected health services researcher and a clinical gastroenterologist. During his research career, he has focused on developing and testing colorectal cancer screening strategies based on risk factors. His findings have been published in highly regarded journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Annals of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.

In addition to his role at Regenstrief, Dr. Imperiale is a core investigator at the Health Services Research and Development Center for Health Information and Communication at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center. He is also the first person to be named the Lawrence Lumeng Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. Imperiale has mentored more than 50 medical residents, faculty, and fellows. He is also a fellow in the American Gastroenterological Association and a member of the Association of American Physicians.

The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy is a professional organization dedicated to advancing patient care and digestive health. It provides endoscopic education and training and fosters research. All of its 15,000 members have highly specialized training in endoscopic procedures of the digestive tract.
