Regenstrief Institute researchers debuted a prototype dashboard for the Indiana Addiction Data Commons (IADC) during Data Day 2020 at the Indiana Statehouse. The event is an annual showcase hosted by the Indiana Management Performance Hub (MPH) to highlight efforts to use data to improve the lives of Hoosiers.
MPH and Regenstrief are working together with several other partners, including the Polis Center and the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE), to address the state’s opioid crisis through the IADC. Funded by the Indiana University Addictions Grand Challenge, the IADC brings together clinical and non-clinical data sources to help researchers, community health professionals, policy makers and others develop evidence-based solutions. The available information includes records from the Indiana Network for Patient Care, emergency service runs, census statistics, and other elements that help create a wider understanding of addiction and its impact.
The IADC metadata dashboard is designed to showcase the datasets that are available within the data commons, providing a simplified look at the myriad sources to help guide the formation of research questions. The dashboard is currently in beta mode, but project leaders hope to begin making it available to Indiana University researchers soon and eventually expand it to a wider audience.
Regenstrief Institute was one of more than two dozen organizations to participate in the third annual MPH Data Day. This year, the event took over the entire main floor of the Statehouse. Attendees heard presentations about some of the state’s most innovative data-driven initiatives, which included Regenstrief’s Katie Allen speaking about the IADC as well as the efforts of Regenstrief Data Services. Other presenters included leaders from Indiana Family and Social Services Administration and Indiana State Police.
