Expanding telemedicine: Regenstrief CEO co-authors blog on AHRQ’s role in supporting telehealth research

The use of telemedicine has greatly increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Regenstrief President and Chief Executive Officer Peter Embí, M.D., M.S., and fellow members of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) National Advisory Committee authored a blog on the agency’s role in generating evidence to improve telemedicine.

The article identified the urgent need to fill significant evidence gaps regarding the quality and safety of care delivered via telemedicine. The authors discussed telehealth as the next frontier in care delivery and the necessity of making it part of the AHRQ’s research agenda.

Dr. Embí joined the AHRQ’s National Advisory Council in 2019 and is serving a three-year term. The council provides advice and recommendations to the AHRQ director and the secretary of U.S. Health and Human Services on priorities for a national health services research agenda.
