Regenstrief president participates in media panel with national experts

photo of Rachel Patzer speaking on ASN panelRegenstrief Institute President and CEO Rachel Patzer, PhD, MPH, joined other national experts on Thursday, October 24 on a panel for media to discuss the immediate and long-term impacts of the rapidly changing federal transplant policy landscape and what it means for the 90,000 Americans on the kidney transplant list today and those who may require a lifesaving transplant in the future.

The panel was convened during the American Society of Nephrology Kidney Week, October 24-27, 2024, in San Diego, California. Kidney Week provides participants exciting and challenging opportunities to exchange knowledge, learn the latest scientific and medical advances and listen to engaging and provocative discussions with leading experts in the field.

Dr. Patzer, who is also a research scientist with the Regenstrief Center for Health Services Research and a professor in the Department of Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine and the IU Indianapolis Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, was joined by:

  • Syed Ali Husain, M.D., MPH, M.A., assistant professor and transplant nephrologist at Columbia University
  • Sumit Mohan, M.D., MPH, FASN, associate professor of medicine and epidemiology at Columbia University, director of clinical research in the division of nephrology and director of quality and outcomes research, New York Presbyterian Hospital Transplant Initiative
  • Jesse D. Schold, MEd, M.S., PhD, professor of surgery and epidemiology, director of the center for outcomes research and policy and associate vice chair of policy and outcomes for the department of surgery, at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus
  • Suzanne Watnick, M.D., professor of medicine in the division of nephrology at the University of Washington, ASN Health Policy Scholar in Residence
