Regenstrief public health expert educates public on using COVID data for decisions

Regenstrief Institute Director of Public Health Informatics Brian Dixon, PhD, MPA, was featured in a panel during a Facebook live event organized by Indiana Public Broadcasting and Side Effects Media. The discussion centered around how the everyday citizen can use available COVID-19 data to inform their decisions.

Dr. Dixon helped explain where to find the data and which data points are most meaningful, in addition to clearing up confusion about reporting and statistics. An expert in public health, Dr. Dixon has been providing context to data throughout the pandemic. He works closely with state and local health departments to analyze trends and provide guidance.

In addition to his role as Regenstrief Institute and Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health director of public health informatics, Dr. Dixon is an associate professor of epidemiology at the Fairbanks School of Public Health. He is also an affiliate scientist at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Health Services Research and Development Center for Health Information and Communication, Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center.

Dr. Dixon was joined in the live event by Micah Pollak, PhD, associate professor of economics at Indiana University Northwest, and Lauren Chapman, IPB news digital editor.
