Regenstrief Institute researcher appointed associate dean for research at IU Indianapolis Fairbanks School of Public Health

Joshua Vest, PhD, MPH

Regenstrief Institute Research Scientist Joshua Vest, PhD, MPH, has been appointed associate dean for research at the Indiana University Indianapolis Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health.  

Dr. Vest served as interim associate dean since April 2024, during which he implemented innovative programs to support faculty research success. These initiatives, including mentorship programs, grant-writing workshops and proposal development resources, have enhanced the school’s research productivity and solidified its standing as a leading research institution. 

In addition to his new role, Dr. Vest serves as the director of the Center for Health Policy at the Fairbanks School. In this capacity, he has strengthened key partnerships across Indiana, contributing to a robust portfolio of locally and federally funded public health research projects that address critical community needs. 

Dr. Vest is a health services researcher specializing in the adoption and effective use of health information technology to improve organizational, clinical and population health outcomes. His work focuses on the adoption, utilization and policy implications of technologies that enable the sharing of patient information across organizations. Notably, his research on health information exchange has explored its impact on reducing readmission rates, minimizing repeat imaging and controlling healthcare costs.

In addition to being a research scientist with the Clem McDonald Center for Biomedical Informatics at Regenstrief Institute, Joshua R. Vest, PhD, MPH, is the director of the Center for Health Policy, associate dean for research and a professor of health policy and management at the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health.
