Emily Burke

Emily Burke

Nominator 1:
Emily Burke is a strong leader both on the Torke/Carnahan team and within the IU Center for Aging Research at Regenstrief as a whole. As one of the longest-tenured IUCAR staff members, Emily has a lot of experience and knowledge that she is always willing to share. She is a supportive supervisor who encourages team members to openly share ideas and to think of creative solutions when problems arise. She also regularly requests feedback on her own work and leadership style and is open to incorporating this feedback into her future work. Emily is successfully leading a growing team and empowering others to step into leadership positions as well. She works very hard and clearly puts a lot of passion and energy into everything that she does. Emily is an incredible Research Manager and is deserving of the One Regenstrief award.

Nominator 2:
Emily Burke is the longest-tenured employee with IUCAR. She has made a career in research and has developed her skills so that she is a mentor and advisor to many of our staff and even faculty. Emily works to develop relationships within the IU research community and Regenstrief Institute. She is an expert at all phases of a clinical trial and has co-authored professional articles. In November 2022 she mentored her staff members in producing poster sessions for GSA National Conference and presented one of her own.

Nominator 3:
In the past year Emily Burke has had outstanding performance in her new role as manager. Several long-term projects she has led are coming to a very positive close. One example is the Chaplain Family Project, a randomized controlled trial of a spiritual care intervention that reduced ICU patient family members’ anxiety, improved their spiritual well-being and improved their satisfaction. This was a very complex study that she coordinated/managed throughout the entire project. She is also doing an excellent job with new initiatives, such as leading a recruitment sprint for our Planning Ahead project that doubled our monthly enrollment! She is growing her leadership skills in daily management and handles challenges with grace and maturity.
