Indiana Chapter of HIMSS Announces Indiana Medicaid Data Challenge

The Indiana Chapter of HIMSS announces the Indiana Medicaid Data Challenge, to be held at Regenstrief Institute in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday, October 21st, 2017 from 8AM to 5PM. Teams of participants will compete to demonstrate innovative visualization and analysis of Medicaid healthcare information that is being de-identified and released by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) through the Indiana Management Performance Hub (MPH), with the assistance of Resultant (formerly KSM Consulting).

“Information technology and data play a vital role in managing Population Health, and generating
actionable insights from that data is essential,” said Gabriela Mustata Wilson, president of the Indiana
Chapter of HIMSS. “This is a unique opportunity for participants to leverage de-identified healthcare
information for investigation into patterns, trends, risk factors and potential interventions for the most
serious threats to the health of Indiana’s population.”

“With over 1.4 million Hoosiers enrolled in the Medicaid system, the Indiana Family and Social Services
Administration accumulates a tremendous amount of service-related data about its providers, claims,
and members,” said Jared Linder, the Chief Information Officer for FSSA. “By making more of this
information publicly available, FSSA and its partners hope to foster the creation of innovative new
health care solutions and improve health outcomes for millions of Hoosiers.”

“Engaging external stakeholders and ensuring that this data is driving better decision-making is
critical,” said Darshan Shah, the State’s Chief Data Officer and Director of MPH. “The Indiana Medicaid
Data Challenge is a first-of-its-kind opportunity for us to reach out to healthcare advocates, providers,
researchers, and entrepreneurs around the state and around the country in a spirit of collaboration
and innovation.”
