Expanded faculty development series launch offers mentorship, career development

Dr. Tom Imperiale presents at faculty development series

Regenstrief Institute hosted its first presentation in a newly-expanded effort to provide mentorship and career development for institute researchers. The Faculty Development and Peer Mentoring Series is aimed at equipping junior and mid-career faculty with skills and knowledge to succeed in the research arena.

The first session featured long-time Regenstrief researchers Thomas Imperiale, M.D., and Linda Williams, M.D., who shared their reflections on work, life and wellness. They told personal stories and offered some advice on ways to find a balance between the competing demands of the personal and professional spheres of their lives.

Future presentations will include advice on managing multiple new projects successfully and effective self-promotion through CV and dossier preparation. Scheduled speakers include both Regenstrief researchers as well as other experts from Indiana University. In addition to the presentation, faculty members are also given the chance to network with each other and share advice and experience.

This series evolved from a journal club to an institute-wide collection of faculty and trainees seeking to develop their skills and career. It is led by Regenstrief researchers Jennifer Carnahan, M.D., MPH, and Shelley Johns, PsyD. The meetings are held monthly.
