Regenstrief research scientist leading effort to improve COVID-19 preparedness in Indiana nursing homes

Regenstrief Institute research scientist Kathleen Unroe, M.D., MHA, and her company Probari, Inc. are working with the Indiana State Department of Health to protect the residents and staff of Indiana nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. State officials enlisted Probari to assist in providing education and training at more than 500 facilities around the state.

Supported by the State Department of Health, Probari nurses are instructing facility staff on COVID-19 guidelines and training them in infectious disease control and prevention. This undertaking is especially important because the close contact required in nursing homes can spread the virus quickly, and the people who live there are at high risk for complications from COVID-19.

Regenstrief made a financial and an operational investment in Probari and holds a stake in the company. The company works to improve the overall healthcare experience of residents at nursing homes and long-term facilities using the OPTIMISTIC care model. The model was created and proven through a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation project.
