Regenstrief president shares data exchange experience with Becker’s Hospital Review

Becker’s Hospital Review interviewed Regenstrief President and Chief Executive Officer Peter Embí, M.D., about the statewide data sharing effort to gather information on COVID-19. Dr. Embí played a major role to lead the collaborative effort among state agencies, academic institutions and the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) to create a visual dashboard displaying hospitalizations, demographics, comorbidities and other information related to the virus outbreak. The information is being used to inform Indiana leaders.

Dr. Embí stressed the importance of the state’s health information exchange in creating the dashboard. Indiana has one of the most robust exchanges in the country and has been receiving data from every hospital system during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also stated that Indiana’s experience has proven that applying informatics expertise is essential for creating COVID-19-specific data exchanges.

Becker’s Hospital Review provides hospital and health system news, best practices, and legal guidance specifically for high-level hospital leaders. The publication has gained a reputation as one of the most trustworthy sources for data and research on healthcare delivery and administration.
