Regenstrief Institute President and Chief Executive Officer Peter Embí, M.D., M.S., shared the accomplishments of the Indiana Pandemic Information Collaborative (IPIC) during the annual meeting of Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI).
IPIC is a multidisciplinary team of more than 70 members across industries and sectors with a common mission to stop the spread of COVID-19 through collaboration. IPIC activities have included data visualization, data modeling and data interchange. Notably, IPIC built the widely cited Regenstrief COVID-19 dashboard. Dr. Embí led the creation of the dashboard and this collaborative.
Dr. Embí who also serves as the Associate Director of Informatics in the Indiana CTSI, presented as part of a panel discussion, “Indiana CTSI-enabled Therapies for Patients and the Community.” Heidi Beidinger-Burnett PhD, MPH of University of Notre Dame; Milan Radovich, PhD of Indiana University School of Medicine and Kinam Park, PhD of Purdue University also participated in the panel, which was moderated by Regenstrief research scientist and Indiana CTSI Co-director Sarah Wiehe, M.D., MPH.
Held as a webinar, the theme of the 2020 Indiana CTSI meeting was improving health from individuals to communities. It included presentations on topics such as breast cancer treatment, opioid addiction and COVID-19. The keynote was delivered by Brian Druker, M.D., director of the Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr Druker was presented the 2020 Gus Watanabe prize during the webinar.

In addition to serving as the president and CEO of Regenstrief Institute, Dr. Embí is the Leonard Betley Professor of Medicine and associate dean for informatics and health services research at Indiana University School of Medicine, associate director of informatics with Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute and vice president for Learning Health Systems with Indiana University Health.
