Following several years of practice as a geriatric psychiatrist, Dr. Daniel Bateman became a clinician-scientist focusing on Alzheimer’s disease (AD). He serves as a co-investigator on the Indiana Alzheimer Disease Center (IADC) Outreach and Recruitment (OR) Core and contributes to the IADC Clinical Core.

Dr. Bateman’s primary research interests are studying and implementing innovative approaches to measure and treat behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) — also described as neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) — by leveraging new and existing technologies. More specifically, he focuses on the use of mobile health interventions and social media interventions to improve the health of caregivers and those with AD. His other research interests involve the study of how BPSD manifests in different neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementias (FTD), and Gerstmann- Sträussler-Scheinker disease (GSS).
