Emily Burke has shown amazing leadership over the past year. As a Research Coordinator she has been coordinating at least 4 different projects (maybe more) without the assistance of an official Research Manager for the team. Emily has played a major role in hiring and training several new team members, and at least 2 of them have had to do all of that virtually! As a supervisor, Emily is intentional about checking in with team members to make sure we have what we need and are doing okay. She empowers and encourages us to use and develop our skills in creative ways and is also willing to offer help or answer questions when we get stuck. Emily works very hard to ensure that our team processes are consistent and organized, and she is always open to receiving suggestions for improvement. In the same way, Emily often requests feedback on her leadership style and willingly incorporates ideas or addresses concerns. I admire the humility that she shows by asking for this feedback. She has played an important role in boosting team morale since we’ve been working from home including organizing virtual social events. Emily is a wonderful example of leadership in IUCAR, and I’m thankful to be on her team.
